Sunridge Village Shopping Centre
Gqeberha
(formerly Port Elizabeth)

The ambition

The Sunridge Village Shopping Centre receives a significant amount of clientele every year, and is a key location in the Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) district. The centre supports many local community initiatives and events in the area, and its move towards greener energy reflects its commitment to serving the best interests of its customers – both shoppers and businesses. Apart from their green ambitions, the centre wanted to reduce its energy spend.

The solution

RenEnergy’s engineered installation negotiates factors such as varying roof heights and varying amounts of shading throughout the day to provide the best possible energy yield. Additional fire safety measures were incorporated – very important for a public building like a shopping centre.

The solution was engineered with state-of-the-art equipment designed specifically for the location, roof type and shade patterns to maximise energy yield. The inverters held the longest standard warranty and comprise of a module-based monitoring system, increasing generation. The modules use cut-cell technology creating further efficiency in shaded areas.

RenEnergy partnered with PEC Utility Management for this solar installation. The solar photovoltaic (PV) solution was integrated with an existing electricity metering system from PEC.

“Our solar installation for Sunridge Village Shopping Centre makes use of otherwise passive roof space to generate energy on-site. Like all our projects, we designed a bespoke system to maximise the available space and energy yield. The installation will generate clean energy for use by the local stores in the centre, reducing their energy spend. As well as being a financially sensible investment, it also demonstrates the shopping centre’s corporate commitment to the environment.”

Claude Peters, Managing Director, RenEnergy Africa

The bespoke design offers maximum yield on multiple roof heights and orientations

“We contracted RenEnergy to help us reduce our electricity expenses, and provide clean power for our community of businesses and shoppers. The installation team was professional and efficient, and took the utmost care with the project from start to finish. We can now expand our operations, safe from rising energy costs. Thanks for your hard work and a job well done!”
