Lighting is a substantial energy demand
Broiler farms follow specific lighting schedules to optimise bird growth and feed conversion rates. Traditionally, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs were used, but many modern broiler farms are transitioning to LED lighting systems, which offer better energy efficiency, durability, and control over light intensity and duration.
Automated feeding and watering systems also contribute to energy consumption. Many farms use automated conveyors, augers, and water pumps to ensure a constant supply of nutritionally balanced feed and clean drinking water. Water systems must be filtered and circulated to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination, adding to the farm’s daily energy requirements.
This ground-mounted solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installation integrates two Eskom connection points using step-up and step-down transformers, enabling the client to extend power supply to an additional area on the farm. By leveraging solar energy and battery storage, the system enhances energy availability, reduces grid dependency, and optimises power distribution, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable operation.
