Eskom announces load shedding for the next two years

Eskom will implement permanent load-shedding in South Africa for the next two years, the state-owned power utility’s chairman Mpho Makwana has said according to reports. While the possibility of Stage 8 loadshedding is receding, it is set to be a part of our lives.

South Africans are increasingly frustrated by the impact of loadshedding and rising electricity prices on their daily lives and their businesses. With the added impact of diesel cost, and downtime, this is adding more unasked for economical pressure on our businesses. Juandre’ PitoutRenEnergy Africa‘s Sales and Business Development Manager says: “We’ve received a huge influx of enquiries over the past few months. Suppliers, manufacturers as well as EPCs’ are under increased pressure to deliver high quality components within the demand of the renewable space. This is problematic, as the increase in demand forces products into the market that are still recovering from COVID and logistical global delays.”

Pitout says that the current trend has completely shifted from grid tied type of savings systems to energy storage systems, to store electricity to mitigate the impact of loadshedding and assist in the diesel cost spending. Whilst there is an increased demand, unfortunately with it comes the emergence of inexperienced installers that are capitalising on the immediate opportunity, resulting in further reputational damage to the renewable energy market and the trust of the technology.

Choosing a solar PV solutions provider that will be there in the long term and has all the industry regulation certificates, processes and stamp of approval of appropriate quality and safety standards, is vital when investing in the correct EPC partner during this peak time in demand. Installing solar PV and energy storage solutions is a long-term investment, and it will absolutely be worth waiting a short while for quality, expertise and the right components.
